ANTA Education recently embarked on a transformative project in collaboration with Kickstart Academy in Telford, an alternative provision dedicated to supporting young people who struggle with mainstream education. This partnership was born out of a mutual desire to create meaningful change and provide opportunities for those who often face significant educational and personal challenges.
Addressing the Needs of Disengaged Youth
Kickstart Academy specializes in offering tailored educational programs to students who find it difficult to thrive in traditional school environments. These students often grapple with various issues, from behavioural problems to personal circumstances that hinder their ability to engage with conventional education systems. Understanding the unique needs of these students, ANTA Education brought its expertise in innovative and engaging sessions to the table.
Overcoming Challenges to Achieve Success
13 year 11 students from Kickstart undertook a Level 1 Health & Safety in Construction qualification with our tutor Claire, whilst a further 13 enrolled on an online Health & Safety in the Workplace course.
Despite the challenging behaviours and initial resistance from some students, the dedication of our Schools Outreach Co-ordinator and Tutor Claire, and the supportive environment at Kickstart Academy facilitated remarkable progress. The combined efforts of ANTA Education and Kickstart Academy staff ensured that each student received the attention and resources they needed to succeed.
One of the most significant outcomes of this collaboration was the students' performance in their exams. The students surpassed their own expectations with an impressive 80% passing the course. This achievement not only provided them with a new qualification to add to their CVs but also opened up future employment opportunities that had previously seemed out of reach.
Looking Forward: Future Employment Opportunities
The qualifications gained through this program have given these young people a new sense of hope and direction. Once they reach 16 they are able to move forward and use this qualification to help gain their CSCS card which will open them up to a wealth of employment opportunities in the construction industry. Three of those who have now left school are studying towards completing their CITB exam with our Tutor, Claire to do just this.
The success of this initiative has highlighted the importance of alternative education provisions. It has demonstrated that with the right support and approach, students who struggle in mainstream education can still achieve academic success and develop the skills necessary for a fulfilling future.
ANTA Education are continuing to work with schools across Shropshire to provide an alternative provision for students at risk of NEET. If you’d like to find out more about our tailored programmes you can visit www.nobodyleftbehind.co.uk or call 01952 201507.
