We started working with Eddie when his work coach at the Job Centre got in touch to say he’d like to enrol on one of our CSCS card courses. She advised he had very severe dyslexia and was concerned he may struggle with elements of the course and had been out of work for some time. We were able to assure her that we’d be able to support him through the course and give him as much support as he needed.
After attending the Health & Safety in Construction course with us at ANTA Education we were able to provide a reader for Eddie during his exam, ensuring the 40 questions he needed to answer were accessible to him. He achieved a 90% pass rate!
His next goal was to revise for the final exam. Due to Eddie not having an email address we were able to liaise with his work coach to ensure he had access to the revision materials and mock tests he needed.
When it came to booking his final exam, we were able to speak directly to the CITB test centre to arrange for Eddie to have a reader as well as additional time as he stated he needs the questions reading slowly, and often repeated for him to fully comprehend what is being asked. This was arranged and very well facilitated by the team at Pearson Vue in Shrewsbury. Eddie was over the moon to find out he has passed his exam first time!
When Eddie called to let us know he’d passed he said “I just wanted to say thank you, I could never have done this without your help.”
We ordered his CSCS card and he is now interviewing for positions where he can utilise it!
We always strive to go above and beyond for our learners where they need additional support. We want to make sure learning is accessible for everyone and always try to remove any barriers that arise.
