Level 3 Mental health leadership

The Mental Health Leadership programme is a bespoke adaptation of the Team Leader/Supervisor Apprenticeship with additional accredited Mental Health at Work qualifications.

This programme will suit individuals from a variety of sectors and organisations, creating a positive mental health environment. This is for anyone in a first line management role, who can take responsibility for managing a team or project. They can support, manage and develop a team. More than ever Team Leader/Supervisors have a responsibility to consider the mental health of their team at work. “Mental health is about how we think, feel and behave. Anxiety and depression are the most common mental health problems. They are often a reaction to a difficult life event and can also be caused by work-related issues”. REF HSE This programme will not only teach existing employees about their roles and responsibilities as a leader, it will also give them a clear understanding of mental health in the workplace, potential barriers and how mental ill health can affect the business.

What's involved?

The apprentice will need to complete the following to gain apprenticeship certification:

  • Level 3 Team Leader Supervisor Apprenticeship

  • Functional Skills in Maths and English

  • End Point assessment

Mental Health qualifications:

  • Level 2 Award in the introduction to Mental Health First Aid*

  • Level 3 Award in Understanding Mental Health in the Workplace for Managers*

  • Level 3 Award in Workplace Wellbeing*

Learners will engage in a blended programme of training and support that will include attendance at formal off-site training sessions on a regular basis, access to high quality interactive on-line learning materials and tutorial support. The programme will require the apprentice to record 20% off job training via the tracking system included with the course resources. The course length is 15 months, plus end point assessment. Individual needs regarding experience, knowledge and skills are taken into account which may amend the length of the course.


On completion and achievement of the apprenticeship, learners can progress to:

  • Operations/ Departmental Manager Apprenticeship (Level 5)

  • Career progression into specialised area such as HR or Finance


  • Learners will be paid a wage while completing their apprenticeship

  • Learners will gain experience working in professional settings

  • Learners can achieve qualifications while working
